Over the course of the next few weeks, many different national outlets will release their top 10 organization lists, as well as some top MiLB 100 prospects list.

Today we look at MLB.com’s top 30 Astros prospects list.

Jim Callis and Jonathan Mayo run MLB’com’s prospect team and they’re two of the best in the business.

Please click here for the list and prospect profiles. There is a paragraph (or two or three) on each prospect from MLB.com’s staff if you click on the player, but I will just be giving the list and my thoughts below.

Unlike Keith Law (ESPN), who ranked the Astros at 17th, MLB.com has the Astros Minor League system ranked 10th, a much more appropriate ranking for this group.

More from Houston Astros

The top 10 of the Astros farm system is generally the same from list to list, though evaluators have changed up the top three group, and usually differ in their 4-10.

Something not being talked about much among fans, but is starting to gather steam from now back-to-back lists, is the amount of talent coming from overseas. The trio of Celestino, Sierra and Perez are ranked 16th-18th, and MLB.com is also high on Abreu and the recently acquired Arauz. Adding talent from outside of the United States hasn’t always worked out well for the Astros, but it may pay off soon.

The biggest rise from last year to this year is David Paulino, who wasn’t ranked on last year’s list and is now at #7. Teoscar Hernandez, ranked 8th last year, fell to #26.

We’ll have more as the prospect lists come out and we will also continue to trot out our own top prospect lists as well.
