Houston Rockets: THREE Things The Team Must Change
By James D'Elia
2. Incorporate Ty Lawson In The Offense
I know what you’re saying – he’s trash, his career has fallen off a cliff, he’s a drunk, etc. I did an analysis before on how Harden effectively shuts him out of the offense by waiting on the halfway line for the ball and refusing to move off the ball.
JB needs to even run simple Dwight Howard and Lawson pick-and-rolls or even Harden and Lawson P-and-R’s to get his confidence back.
More from Houston Rockets
- Houston Rockets and Texans: Two different coaches with one glaring similarity
- Houston Rockets: Dig in, make threes, win series
- Houston Rockets: The time to make a statement is now
- Houston Rockets: Rest Russell Westbrook for remainder of the OKC series
- Houston Rockets: G2: What has put the team in driver’s seat against OKC
I know not many people were happy we kept him but I was. If Houston can really give him a chance to turn his life around they can decline his team option and sign him for half the price at the end of the year.
As can be seen from this deadline no one is clamouring for his services so it really is up to Ty to save his own career. Also per Calvin Watkins of ESPN Ty always wanted to make it work in Houston :
If Ty is motivated to make it work with the Rockets he should be allowed more freedom with the ball and the ability to actually call and run simple plays to get the offense moving.
Ty and Jason Terry will become much more important to this team now that Thornton is gone and they will have to cover his energy and scoring punch off the bench. If Ty can finally return to his former self, then the trade of Thornton for a first-rounder may look like a touch of genius.
