It’s t-minus two days and counting Houston Rockets’ fans.

The NBA’s annual trade deadline is approaching with breakneck pace; and, as expected, the Rockets have been the talk of town.

With the team underachieving as much as they have, there’s something that has to be done put some kind of a jolt in this roster.

But quite honestly, if this team committed to play some defense, then we’d probably be at the same pace — or even better — than we were last year.

It has gotten so bad, it has come to this, to where the Rockets have to make a move out of necessity just to save face.

Daryl Morey has a strong track record of being able to hammer out a deal usually at the last minute to try to improve this team.

I expect nothing less from Morey as he inches closer to finish line….er….uh….deadline.

Dwight Howard is literally one of the team’s biggest commodities and since he does have value, Morey is doing his due diligence in ensuring that we can maximize the amount of assets that we could get in return for him.

The Rockets have had talks with the Atlanta Hawks, Miami Heat and the Toronto Raptors in regard to moving aging — yet quite effective — big man.

But add another team to growing list of teams the Rockets are talking to.

Which one?

The Charlotte Hornets.

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Rockets have discussed a potential trade with the Hornets but have yet to find a workable deal.

Stein has expressed that the Rockets are likely looking for a first-round pick to be included in any type of deal that they’d make.

That’s no problem for the Hornets who have them all available for the foreseeable future.

They’ve only made deals for their second-rounders thus far for the next couple of drafts.

I’m sure the Rockets also want more in return and I actually wouldn’t mind seeing Al Jefferson, Nicolas Batum and even Marvin Williams here in Houston.

Hell, they can throw in Tyler Hansbrough in the deal as well.

This is a serious yawn-fest though.

Although they have young talent there, those players are best suited for Clifford’s system and may not be the best of fits for the Rockets.

And I’m sure they feel the same way if they tried to implement Dwight so late in the season.

I’m positive that we wouldn’t be able get Jefferson and Batum in the deal — unless some serious finagling was done — but one of those guys is definitely possible.

But Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical cautions that the Hornets have no interest in cashing in assets for Dwight at this time.

He also mentions that Steve Clifford is quite fond of him during his days back with the Orlando Magic but he sees no path to a deal.

We’ll have to see as things heat up as the days go by.

The Rockets are working to deal Howard because he is expected to opt-out after the season and forgo the $23.2 million option which is the last year of a four-year, $88 million deal that he signed back in 2013.

It wouldn’t be prudent to risk the possibility to allow him to walk and the team gets nothing in return.

Although Howard has expressed his content as a Rocket, we all know how wishy-washy he can be, especially when he’s trying to chase that paper!

Next: Dwight If You Do, Dwight If You Don't

And there’s an expectation that there will be a lot of it next season when team’s salary caps will raise as a result of a multi-billion television deal that kicks in, pumping endless amounts of cash into the NBA’s already-bulging coffers.

Howard, 30, is averaging 14.6 points, 12.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks through 44 games this season.  He is also shooting 61.2 percent from the field thus far.

Stay tuned and fasten your seat belt Rockets’ fans, it’s going to get bumpy!

Go Rockets.
