The NBA All-Star Weekend is over and now the focus starts to shift on what the Houston Rockets will do before the trade deadline.

When is it?

It’s this Thursday, Feb. 18th!

I expect the Rockets to be extremely active to try to make a deal to improve this team.

Unless you’ve been under a rock as of late, this team is heavily underachieving when the expectations were so high at the beginning of the season to repeat their previous season’s performance.

This is the official midpoint of the season and the Rockets are sitting at a 27-28 record.

As I’ve said previously, this team has some serious character issues — I think they’re characterless — and lack any sort of consistency as they’ve taken the court this season.

This is a stark contrast from last year’s team where they always found ways to win despite the challenges.

This is unfortunate that they’re in this predicament but it’s not too late for them to try to salvage this season and make something of it.

I do have to wonder what Daryl Morey has up his sleeve for this year’s deadline move as he has never not let the date pass without making a move.

There’s a lot of talent out there but Morey does have to cautious about adding salary to their payroll.

Why?

As a result of the Rockets moves they made in the off season, the Rockets are ever-close to an $88.7 spending cap placed on teams that are above the luxury tax line, which is the situation that this team is in.

But I think they can still make a savvy move and also attempt to right this ship as well.

In my opinion, here’s what they should do:

They NEED to take a gander at New Orleans Pelicans’ forward Ryan Anderson.

He’s a prolific shooter, that can find ways to score and decently rebound the basketball.

More from House of Houston

His defense has to get a bit better against some of the more skilled forwards in the league but he can certainly hold his own against the cream of the crop of the NBA.

I’m not saying this would be a blockbuster move but something the Rockets should consider to shake up the chemistry — or lack thereof — so it hopefully helps them put some wins in that left column.

So what would the Pelicans want?

I’m sure you’d have to ship Corey Brewer in this deal because their salaries are identical.

Brewer will make $8 million this season while Anderson is set at $8.5 million.

But I’m positive that’s not all that they want so we’ll see as there are many teams calling the Pelicans at this time for his services.

More from Houston Rockets

Anderson is also in the last year of four-year, $34 million deal and becomes an unrestricted free agent this off season.

Morey has always liked picking up players with contracts expiring soon so this may be something he’s looking to sink his teeth into.

I could see him as a rental for the remainder of the season and if he performs well, the Rockets c an work to get him a deal that he wants.

This is all hypothetical and what I’d like to see in a perfect world but we all know that things don’t necessarily work that way.

With chatter being out there that Anderson could fetch a max deal this off season as he’ll be highly-coveted, it would remain to be seen if the Rockets could afford him.

But if there’s a will, there’s  a way and you Morey will find that way.

Next: Rockets: Expectations Before The Trade Deadline

Let’s hope for the best.

Anderson, 27, is averaging 16.7 points, 5.9 rebounds while shooting 38.3 percent from behind-the-arc and 86.2 percent from the charity through 51 games this season.

Let’s get it done Morey!

Go Rockets.
