The Houston Rockets lost to the Hawks, the Stephen Curry’less Warriors and the Spurs this week. Where do they stand this week among the national media’s NBA power rankings? (Power Rankings done based on action from last Monday through this Sunday’s games.)

This week’s average power ranking: 17.167
Last week’s average power ranking: 13.6 (click here to view)

ESPN (Marc Stein)
Ranked – 15 | Last Week – 12

"The degree of difficultly opposition-wise hasn’t exactly been easy, but the Rockets have indeed squandered every ounce of momentum they hoped to bottle from that Christmas Day W over mighty San Antonio. Although that’s the only loss the Spurs have suffered in their last 12 games, Houston is 0-4 since and right back in the bottom five in Defensive Efficiency."

CBS Sports (Matt Moore)
Ranked – 15 | Last Week – 9

"The loss to the Warriors without Curry, Barnes and Barbosa (and Ezeli, sure) was downright embarrassing. This team’s entire identity has been compromised and there doesn’t appear to be any way to get them back on track toward the team that made the WCF last spring. Last year may have just been a fluke."

NBA.com (John Schuhmann)
Ranked – 19 | Last Week – 15

"Houston (16-19)Pace: 99.9 (7) OffRtg: 103.1 (11) DefRtg: 105.5 (26) NetRtg: -2.4 (19)Yeah, you can throw that Christmas Day result out with your tree. After holding the league’s third-ranked offense to 84 points, the Rockets have allowed their last four opponents (including the Spurs again on Saturday) to shoot 46 percent from 3-point range and score 117 per 100 possessions. James Harden has helped the offense keep up through the first half, but he’s shot 11-for-37 in the second half of the four games. This week: @ UTA, vs. UTA, vs. IND"

"Dwight Howard might actually be getting into rhythm offensively"

ProBasketballTalk (Kurt Helin)
Ranked – 19 | Last Week – 16

"Losses to Spurs and Warriors last week, but they fought hard in those games if you are into moral victories. The Rockets defense remains inconsistent (to put it kindly) and with that you see them drop 5-of-6, the only win being a Christmas Day miracle."

Sports Illustrated (Jeremy Woo)
Ranked – 18 | Last Week – 16

"After the Christmas Day win over San Antonio, Houston lost three tight games…and then the Spurs got revenge. The Rockets allowed 110 or more points in all four losses and now play a home-and-away against the Jazz with some potential long-term eight-seed implications."
