Rockets Report: Team Toiling Away To Trade Ty Lawson

This Houston Rockets team is perplexing.

They’re like a really bad girlfriend that one still has feelings for at times.

They’ll break your heart and once they do that, they’ll do everything they can to win it back.

We’ve all been there right?

But that’s what the Rockets are doing to us this season.

In this last stretch, which was quite impressive, they had won seven of their last 10 games to go on a tear and go above the .500 mark for the first time this season.

But that was snapped in last night’s 104-101 loss to the Orlando Magic.

That’s such a sad feat to admit considering the expectations that were set this season for this team to be a contender.

Championship?  We’re talking about a championship?

I just want this team to qualify for the playoffs!

Despite with all that has transpired this season, my heart says that they’ll still make the playoffs but mind says no unless they make some moves to improve this team.

The first move that they need to make is to orchestrate a full-out jettison of beleaguered point guard Ty Lawson.

He has done absolutely nothing to help this team win and seems to be around just to collect the $12 million paycheck that he’ll get for 2015-16.

And I haven’t gotten to the horrible legal battles that he’s currently involved in.

The Rockets were reluctant to trade Ty, but according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the franchise is now engaging with his representatives because he is unhappy with the playing time he’s getting.

When are these stars going to learn that playing time is something that’s not entitled but something that’s earned?

He has done nothing to win the starting spot so Patrick Beverley should rightfully be in that position.

But the Rockets have been willing to talk turkey for cheap, trying to just rid themselves of the rubbish that’s rotting in the trash can.

But as the CBS Sports’ Ken Berger reports, there have been few takers for a trade and there are some whispers — although not confirmed by Berger — that the Rox might ultimately waive the guard.

That certainly would be the scorched earth scenario because at that point, all avenues/options would have been explored with the team still coming up empty-handed.

It would be tough to hear that this team could not get anything in return for him, having to cut him loose and pay his salary on top of that.

But I know Daryl Morey is better than that and he’s going to find a way to get a deal done, even if involves taking on a bad contract that hopefully is set to expire soon.

But the Rockets are in a tight spot as they’re only $2 million way from the $88.7 million hard cap which would severely handcuff the Rockets for future trades.

They had three trade exceptions but they all expired Saturday since they only have that $2 million to play with.

So, all in all, it’s a tight spot for the Rockets but I think they’ll a way to wiggle through.

If not, they just need to cut their losses and move on.

Lawson, 28, has averaged 6.1 PPG and 4.1 APG, shooting 34.1 percent from the field averaging 25.3 minutes per game through 27 games (11 starts) through 2015-16.

Go Rockets.
