Houston Rockets: Can They Have A Do-Over?

facebooktwitterreddit

Alas, the Houston Rockets are here and are around to stay for awhile.

Us fans here in the H have been anticipating such a start for quite some time as the Houston Texans continue to disappoint us with their woes.

What woes?  Their level of underachieving play, the bad coaching that’s going on as well as our general manager’s boneheaded moves finally coming to light after being protected for so long.

Of course, last week’s 41-26 rout the Miami Dolphins handed to the team was certainly icing on the cake.

So now we turn to our beloved Rockets as the team that will lift our spirits and take us of the doldrums for the next six months. Because we know the Texans won’t.

The bright lights were on and the stage was set as the Rockets entered but something funny happened last night.

They lost.

What?  Against the hapless Denver Nuggets? That wasn’t supposed to happen but you know what?

It did.

The Nuggets came out last night with the highest level of intensity and throughout the game I was hoping the Rockets would be able to match it but to no avail. They just continued to trail the Nuggets as time went on and never really seemed to make that push to go over the top.

I kept thinking to myself that they’ll get themselves back in the game despite how bad that they were shooting but my hopes never transitioned into a reality.

Their shooting was abysmal — 30-for-87 (34.5 percent) from the field and 8-for-35 (22.9 percent) from behind-the-arc — and it certainly factored into why they ungracefully stumbled.

The Rockets had cut their deficit to four points when the Nuggets led 65-61 with 4:46 left in the third quarter but our opponent went on a 11-2 run to put us in their rear-view mirror for good.

The fourth quarter wasn’t even close to being watchable as well as the Rockets just seemed to be biding time before the triple zeroes on the scoreboard.

James Harden was, of course, the leading scorer for the Rockets with 22 points but went 6-for-21 from the field, 2-for-12 from downtown with six rebounds and six dimes to his credit.

One could attest that he had a complete “off” night as I saw step-back after step-back miserably miss the center of the hoop.

As expected, Ty Lawson did get the start at point guard but his 3-for-10 shooting certainly didn’t do any favors for the team percentage but his 12 points and six assists are close to on-par with what he averaged for the Nuggets last season.

Montrezl Harrell looked good in the 15 minutes that he was given, making the most of them.  His eight points and three rebounds as well as going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field indicate that Terrence Jones could be on the trading block soon.

Jones threw in 15 points and six rebounds certainly proving that his value may continue to attract suitors that make the highest bid.

There’s just so much upside with Harrell — being overly aggressive on the boards and attacking the paint at will, that I’d be okay if Jones were traded.

But, it’d be great if he could stay as he compliments this roster quite well,

It’s an early assertion but Rockets’ general manager Daryl Morey may have found another undervalued talent in the second-round as he makes this team is immensely deep on the front line.

We’ve got some new parts to this lineup that have sync with the old ones and it’s just going to take some time before they’re fused together.

Let’s hope they figure this soon out though as they face the world-champ Golden State Warriors tomorrow night at Toyota Center.

Tip-off is at 7 p.m.

But can we have that do-over first?

Go Rockets!
