Houston Rockets Corral Dallas Mavericks 108-101
What a performance by our Houston Rockets last night!
Don’t call it a comeback!
Well, in reality, it was.
It looked like this team was dead in the water, that their boosters were malfunctioning but despite the challenges, this team surmounted them.
They found a way to win this basketball game.
You know, it’s paramount that they win every game possible because the Rockets are flirting with securing the No. 2 seed in the extremely competitive Western Conference for the playoffs!
Who would’ve envisioned such a feat despite the injuries this team has faced throughout the season?
But there the Rockets are on the verge of doing something great.
It has just been thrill witnessing them do this as well!
Just as it was watching these guys rally together to beat a long-time division rival!
Any way, the Rockets hung tough throughout the start of the 1st quarter.
Although the Mavs took a 20-12, eight-point lead after an Amar’e Stoudemire layup on the drive, the Rockets fought hard to get themselves back into the game.
They went on a 13-0 run led by Pablo Prigioni, Trevor Ariza, James Harden and Joey Dorsey.
It was Prigioni’s three-ball that really got things cooking!
The Rockets eventually took the led and finished the 1st quarter on top of the Mavs 28-25.
The 2nd quarter was as tight as a drum until toward the end where the Mavs started to use their free throw shooting to slowly pull away.
Monta Ellis scored five points in the final 2:06 to put the Mavs up at the half 55-47.
One of those points was off a free throw from technical foul called on Josh Smith who was making a case for a foul to be called.
At the start of the 2nd half, a different Rockets team showed up.
They came out with all cylinders firing with the Beard being able to draw a foul off Chandler Parsons for two free throws, J-Smoove being able hit a fadeaway jumper and Jason Terry knocking down a three-pointer to close within one point of the Mavs. Mavs 55, Rockets 54
But Mavs went on a 8-0 run with two threes from Dirk Nowitzki and Chandler Parsons individually and a Ellis layup on the drive. Mavs 63, Rockets 54
But Rockets didn’t quit — they stayed within striking distance.
J-Smoove had a damn near-flawless one-handed dunk driving in from the right with 6:14 left giving the Rockets a bit of a spark to get back into the game. Mavs 67, Rockets 60
But Parsons countered with a three-pointer with 5:01 left that put the Mavs up by 11 points, their largest lead of the game. Mavs 72, Rockets 61
But Corey Brewer was also instrumental in the Rockets’ turnaround — scoring five points late in the 3rd to help the Rockets pull within four points, being down 74-70.
J-Smoove helped pull the Rockets within two points — 78-76 — but the Mavs got hot again to eventually led the Rockets at the end of the third, 83-77.
At the start of the 4th quarter, Brewer, Terrence Jones and Dwight Howard all worked in concert to put together a 6-0 run to tie the game back up at 83-all with 9:25 left.
The Mavs did take a 91-85 lead with 7:51 left after another three-pointer from Nowitzki but Prigioni countered with yet another three to start another battle.
The Rockets tied the game back up at 95-all after a Brewer pull-up with 5:08 left.
And here’s where the Rockets stole the momentum.
With 4:07 left, the Jet hit a big-time three to put the Rockets up by three and to help his former team bite the dust!

It was no stopping the Rockets then as they won this game by continuing to draw fouls and making their free throws at the charity stripe.
That’s eight free throws sunk in the last 2:46 to be exact.
Eventually the Rockets held on to defeat the Mavs 108-101!
The Beard led the Rockets in scoring with 24 points and six assists.
Ariza, who has been playing some solid basketball as of late, threw in 19 points, six rebounds, six assists and two steals. He was also 3-for-7 behind-the-arc.
Don’t forget about the Headband of Brothers — J-Smoove came up huge with a double-double — 15/12 with two monster blocks. All 15 of his points were in the 2nd half!
Brew had 14 points to add the Rockets resurgence in the latter stages of the game as well!
Although the Jet only had 10 points, it was his three-pointer late in the game that breathed new life into the Rockets.
