Powell was a late season add, once it was determined that Greg Smith wouldn’t physically be able to make it back in time for the playoffs as the 3rd string, emergency big coming off the bench.

He was brought in as an insurance policy or in case the need arose in the playoffs to have an extra banger off the bench to come in and lean on the opponents bigs or deliver some strategic fouls in the paint.

Powell is a journeyman center/power forward who has bounced around the globe but has yet to catch significant time with an NBA team. The Rockets have an option on him for next season but I suspect they will find a different option, so he is also not likely to return.
