The Houston Texans public relations department has a sticky situation on their hands as one of their top prospects was arrested this past Sunday and charged with two misdemeanors.

The Houston Texans player involved was D’Onta Foreman as this incident occurred early Sunday morning.  Foreman was on-campus at the University of Texans, his alma-mater, hanging out with friends.  It was around midnight when the University Police received reports of marijuana smoke emitting from three vehicles in a parking lot adjacent to residence hall.  When the police checked it out, they found marijuana in each vehicle and a gun inside Foreman’s, which was registered and licensed to him.

The police arrested Foreman around 3 a.m. Sunday morning and charged him with unlawful carrying of a weapon and marijuana possession.  He did post bond later on Sunday and his maintained his innocence.  Hotshot Houston attorney Chip Lewis will be representing him in this case and has continued to reiterate that he complied with all laws in the storage of his firearm and that the marijuana was not his but had belonged to one his friends.

I and media-industry vet Robert Land talk more about this in our Locked on Texans podcast, so feel free to take a listen here and subscribe to our daily rumblings:

Foreman also has expressed his desire to be tested to urinalysis test to prove that he did use the drug.  Here’s more in a statement issued by Lewis later Sunday:

"“D’Onta was arrested by the University Police Department earlier today. He had traveled to Austin to visit friends. As he was leaving their residence, he was approached by police. Prior to a search of his vehicle, D’Onta alerted the officer that he had a handgun inside of his vehicle. This legal handgun was recently purchased by D’Onta and registered in his name. The handgun was properly secured inside his vehicle as required by Texas law. A passenger in D’Onta’s vehicle was in possession of marijuana. D’Onta did not use or possess the marijuana. Upon making his bond, he will submit to urinalysis and confirm he has not used marijuana. D’Onta appreciates the professionalism of the officers involved in his arrest and booking into the Travis County jail. We are confident this matter will be resolved justly once the state of Texas applies the applicable law to the facts.”"

The Houston Texans are aware of the situation and are gathering more information in regard to this incident.  I honestly think that Foreman will be vindicated because of his willingness to take a drug test and with him strongly denying any guilt of the crime charged.  But if the Houston Texans don’t dole out any punishment, it remains to be seen in the NFL will take action which depending on severity of the situation, fines/penalties have been doled out.  We’ll have to see how this plays out.

More from House of Houston

It will be tough to prove that the marijuana was his.  This also reminds me of when Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter mentioned on the record as a speaker at the 2014 rookie symposium that’s it’s important to have a “fall guy” in your circle in case situations like this come up but wasn’t necessarily the best advice to give considering it’s just best to not be in that situation in the first place.  ESPN — his former employer — and the NFL condemned his comments and Carter had to issue a public apology.

Next: This is the year of J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney

Foreman rushed for 2,028 yards as the star running back for the Longhorns in 2016 and was a third-round draft pick this year.

Go Texans.
