The Houston Rockets and the New York Knicks have been on track to get a potential deal done but there has been a derailment to their trajectory.

This compelling Houston Rockets story about these two parties trying to get a deal together continues to have legs but the latest information that has been communicated is that there is a stall to the progression of dealing Carmelo Anthony.  The Knicks had been in the process of finding a general manager as Steve Mills is expected to be named the president of the franchise.  As a result, trade talks have halted while this gets hashed out.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelbourne worked together to report that the Knicks are reconsidering their previous mantra of trying to trade him away.  They want to talk him into staying but I’m hard-pressed to see what exactly their selling point would be.  The raunchy potential slogan of “stick with us a bit longer, we’ll work it out” doesn’t sound too convincing to a guy that’s already checked out.  Anthony is ready to join a contender to make his professional basketball career whole.

Any way, the Knicks and the Sacramento Kings have agreed in principle to bring Scott Perry, currently the vice president of basketball operations for the latter mentioned into the fold.  With Perry on board, he has signaled that he’d like to pitch trying to retain Anthony.  Since Mills and Perry will need to be in-sync, it’s clear that they’re holding off any deals until an evaluation of the potential impact can be completed with their new hire.

Stefan Bondy and Frank Isola of the New York Daily News had reported yesterday that a deal was on the “two-yard line” and that things were imminent but this news certainly puts a damper on how things had been transitioning to completion.  I honestly think that the deal will be done but this new regime with the Knicks is trying to evaluate any other options before jettisoning him away from the Big Apple.  Regardless, the inevitable will happen but the Knicks can certainly control when his exact departure date will be which will be at the end of next season at the latest if he has to exercise his early termination option.

All in all, I love that the Houston Rockets are going all-in on this and not playing it safe for the upcoming season.  Trying to beat the Golden State Warriors is serious business and we’re attaining all the help that we can get to try to meet that goal.  One has to try and try again because if you don’t, then what’s the point?  That’s why I applaud Daryl Morey for what he’s doing.  Let’s hope for the best.
