Ladies and Gentlemen, Houston Texans fans, come one, come all!  The NFL Free Agency period is about to begin!

Yes, starting at noon today, teams are allowed to speak with the representation of the various players that are free agents.

And as of this Thursday, teams can actually sign players to deals to make them official.

I do expect the Texans to be busy on this front as they have a lot needs to fill through this avenue but are somewhat limited in terms of the cash they have available.

They’ll have approximately $25 million to spend and that’s before they make adjustments/roster cuts.

They’ll need to be looking at a quarterback, offensive linemen, secondary help even some additions to bolster the already-burgeoning defensive line.

But there might be one concern the Houston Texans may have to have depending on how things shake out.

What’s that you might ask?

The free agency of Ryan Griffin.

Yes, our tight end that has been a mainstay of our offense for the past four seasons is now complete with his rookie deal and is about to go on the open market.

He just completed a four-year, $2.2 million deal and will be seeking a lot more from the teams that are ready to shell out the big bucks.

The Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson reports that the both sides want each other back and they’re talking in a uplifting manner.

But at this moment, Wilson says there’s no deal yet.

He also mentions that it’s possible — but not certain — that he could fetch somewhere around $4 to $5 million per season, putting him in the realm of fellow free agents like Luke Wilson and Jermaine Gresham.

I personally think we can bring Griffin back if that’s all he’s going for but that depends on the Texans’ other priorities.

The Texans will likely want to wait to see what he can ask for on the open market and then try to negotiate with him more after that.

If Griffin walks, there’s a plentiful amount of talented tight ends in the draft that could pair up with C.J. Fiedorowicz based off of what I saw in the NFL Combine this past weekend.

So we’ll have to see how the Texans proceed on this front.

Griffin, 27, caught 50 passes for 442 yards and two touchdowns in all 16 games (five starts) in 2016.

Those numbers are the best of his career along with being targeted a record 74 times this past season in Bill O’Brien‘s offense.

Go Texans.
