Jake Marisnick: HOH’s Week 3 Silver Star Award Winner

facebooktwitterreddit

The Houston Astros have been on a tear as of late, winning six of their last eight games and proudly perched at the top of the American League West division.

It has been a couple of days and the Astros are still at the top of standings!

Has the world gone topsy-turvy?!?

In past seasons, especially when we’d win our season opener, we’d be at the top of the division — for a day.

Things would quickly start to unravel as the team would start to ascend to their usual spot in the cellar.

But this team is different.

Astros’ fans we’ve continued to talk about when would be the point to where our beloved team would be competitive and I honestly think that the particular moment we’ve been looking for has arrived.

And quite honestly, that transition started shortly after the All-Star Break from last season.

With a few key additions and shifts to the roster, this team is certainly picking up right where it left off and for that I’m encouraged in regard to their progress.

Now let’s not grab the ticker-tape or through out the confetti just yet but we’re seeing a team out there that’s hungry, wants to play cohesively and not just there for a paycheck or to hold a spot as opposed to previous seasons.

Something special’s going on and if you haven’t tuned-in yet, I honestly implore you do so because you are missing out.

It’s a lot easier now that the Astros are available to been seen on television in most of the Houston area with the inking of the deal with ROOT Sports, an AT&T/DirecTV venture late last year.

So have no excuse to say that you haven’t had a chance to see this team!

Sit down and watch these guys play and I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Although the hitting is certainly not there yet for this team, it will come and once that happens, great things are on the horizon.

To what extent, I’m not sure but it will happen.

There’s one guy that has remained consistent from the start of the season and continues to be one of the shining new stars on this roster.

Because of this, excellence deserves to be recognized — today on that type of basis continuously, we will honor an individual player that made the most impact in helping the team, despite whether it resulted in a win or a loss.

We’ve dubbed it House of Houston Silver Star Award

And this week’s Silver Star Award goes to…

Jake Marisnick!

Jake is our first recipient of the award because of his surprisingly exponential success.

Come on, I knew he was going to be solid but I didn’t know he was going to be amongst the proportions in leading the team in key statistical categories.

More from House of Houston

For this past week, Marisnick has gone 5-for-13 with one double, one ribbie, two walks, three strikeouts and two stolen bases.

He has hit .385 for the past week and holds a .962 OPS to which he leads the team in both categories.

He also has 32 put-outs so far on the season.

As well as he has been playing, it kind of makes you forget about Dexter Fowler, the guy we traded away so that Marisnick could replace him.

  • I definitely wanted us to keep Dex but in terms of acute analysis and long-term investment worth, Marisnick is the better pick and is poised to take the center-fielder role with ease.

    And it has showed.

I hope that he can continue the success that he has had because if so, he’ll be our anchor at CF for quite some time.

I believe the Astros are getting to the point where they will start to retain their quality assets if they continue perform well.

Marisnick could be one of those first examples I’m talking about in regard to that.

However, he has been suffering some discomfort in his right leg causing him to miss last night’s game against the Oakland Athletics as well as the tonight’s.

Colby Rasmus will take over for him at CF for the time-being.

    More from Houston Astros

But I’m not sure what’s in the Kool-Aid that the Astros are drinking but I want some of that!

It’s infectious and it seems that the entire team is working hard to pay attention to the task at hand — winning baseball games.

Keep making us proud Jake — go Astros!
