Report: Houston Texans Interested In Nick Foles?

We’re barely just a few weeks into the off-season, a couple of a months before the draft and the Houston Texans are already part of some rumors.

It’s best to describe the quarterback situation with the Texans as one that’s in flux.

Last season us fans went through seeing Ryan Fitzpatrick, Ryan Mallett, then back to Fitz, then to Tom Savage and finally Case Keenum to finish out the season.

Yes, before the season was over, we had gone through four quarterbacks just to get the job the done.

I don’t know if it’s just me but I think we’re just unlucky with QB’s, we’ve never really had a franchise QB but one that was just there to get the job done.

I was beginning to believe Matt Schaub was that guy when he got hot during our two season, consecutive playoff run. During the stretch of the seasons from 2009-12, there was only one of those where he didn’t throw over 4,000 yards.

That was in 2011 when he was dealing with a foot injury that caused him to spend some time on the shelf.

But that was then, this is now.  Schaub lost his mojo, his arm went dead and eventually got shipped to the Oakland Raiders and stunk it up there too.  Yikes.

But that was then this is now.

Now, we have an opportunity to snag a talented QB that isn’t perfect but is likely better than what was had.

Who?

Eagles’ QB Nick Foles.

Charlie Campbell of Walter Football.com reported yesterday in their 2015 Senior Bowl rumor mill that there’s a strong possibility the Texans would be interested in acquiring Foles in a trade.

A considerable amount of NFL general managers, coaches and other staff are in Mobile, Ala. for the Senior Bowl so I consider what he’s saying plausible as he does have an ear to the ground but I do have take what’s being said at face value.

Chip Kelly may be more interested making a deal to draft Marcus Mariota, a quarterback that he groomed during his collegiate coaching days at the University of Oregon and is quite capable of running his offense.

You know what I think?

They need to move and fast on this guy!

He’s got a hell of an arm, can stretch the field and keep this offense chug-a-luggin’ along!

I can hear it now — “Foles to Nuk…Touchdown Texans!”  Hopefully, we can hear a “Foles to Johnson” call but that’s a different topic we’ll have to talk about.

Last season, was one of injury for him after Whitney Mercilus gave him a jarring hit breaking his collarbone coincidentally against the Texans Nov. 2.

He was on pace to throw for record yardage in his short career completing the season with more than 2,100 yards.  But unfortunately, he threw 10 picks to 13 interceptions.

Yes, we know, he throws picks but that can be corrected.

We know that he’s a pocket-passer, that’s okay, the Texans can beef up that offensive line so he can be protected!

His best season was in 2013 where he threw for 2,891 yards with 27 touchdowns to two interceptions!  He had a 119.2 passer rating!

I want that Nick Foles!

It can happen and Bill O’Brien is genius at developing QBs.

He has a future here and can take the Texans to the next level with the right nurturing.

He does have those Texas ties, being a native of Austin, Tex. starring at Westlake High School.

I know a lot of you prefer Ryan Mallett but we’ve got to strike while it’s hot and Foles is the catalyst, the fuel to the fire!

So this is my message to the Texans — GO GET HIM!  Bring me that arm!

I’m done.
