From a Texan fan perspective, this is starting to feel like the first draft all over when football-genius Charlie Casserly went with David Carr over Julius Peppers. They had two years to make that choice without having to worry about what any other team was going to do, and yet they still blew it. And that decision negatively affected the performance of the team for many years.

This year’s choice has that same potential. If this latest version of a Texans braintrust picks anyone other than Clowney, then whoever they pick had better blow it up. Otherwise two things will be certain – (a) loyal fans will continue to suffer; (b) we will finally be able to dump Rick Smith.

Rick Smith has had a pretty good history with first rounders, but yes, if he blows this one he may be seeing the Exit door in a few years.

I think you are crediting Smith with the JJ Watt choice and, from what I have heard, that was not the case. So, take Watt out of the calculation you just did on Smith’s first round picks, then re-do it.
