The Houston Rockets and the other 29 NBA teams are about to get busier now that free agency is about to begin. The 2025 offseason already started off with a bang when the Rockets acquired Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns earlier this month, and now Houston fans are eagerly anticipating to see when the next shoe will drop.

As exciting as it is to have a former MVP like Durant on the roster, the Rockets aren't even close to being finished with offseason moves. More trades could be on the horizon, including one that reportedly might involve a recent first-round draft pick.

When it comes to trade rumors, Cam Whitmore is one of the first names that comes up when the Rockets are discussed. With his being a 20-year-old former first-round pick who's still on his rookie contract, it isn't unfathomable to imagine him attracting the most attention out of Houston's potential trade pieces.

And, as it turns out, the ex-Villanova product is already garnering attention.

"Whitmore has drawn trade interest from the Chicago Bulls (before the Isaac Okoro acquisition) and Denver Nuggets, among others," HoopsHype's Michael Scotto reported on Monday. "It’s worth noting Whitmore was nearly traded to the Phoenix Suns in the Kevin Durant trade... Instead, Phoenix opted for more future second-round draft pick compensation."

The fact that the Rockets were willing to trade Whitmore to the Suns indicates that he's no longer an integral part of the franchise's core. He's still in Houston only because Phoenix didn't want him; however, that doesn't mean another team won't be interested in his services.

Since being drafted 20th overall two years ago, Whitmore has played 98 regular-season games with five starts in a Rockets jersey. He's averaged 10.8 points and 3.0 rebounds while shooting 44.9% from the field and 35.7% from distance, with his best performance coming when he tallied season-highs in points (34) and threes made (7) in his last regular-season start against the Los Angeles Lakers on April 11.

Rather than letting him rot on the bench, the Rockets should capitalize on Whitmore's stock before it's too late. His being a recent first-round pick is still fresh at the forefront of potential suitors' minds, and trading him sooner rather than later could help Houston land a contributor who's a better fit in Houston.

With the upcoming week slated to be the busiest of the NBA offseason, Whitmore's time as a Rocket could end shortly.
