The Houston Texans are down to 53 players on their final roster, and there will still be movement along the team leading up to Week 1.

Players around the league will be claimed on waivers, while some vets who were cut seek to find new teams. The Texans could make a few more additions, but on Wednesday, they decided to re-sign TE Harrison Bryant after parting ways with him on Tuesday.

Texans Quickly Bring Back TE Harrison Bryant

During the month of August, the Texans traded WR John Metchie III to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for Bryant. Houston was deep in the WR room, but that couldn't be said for their tight ends.

Dalton Schultz and Cade Stover are the TE1 and 2 for the Texans, but after that, it was shaky. Brevin Jordan was placed on IR due to a season-ending knee injury. This was his second straight campaign which he went down with a knee injury.

Meanwhile, Irv Smith Jr. is also on IR due to an ankle injury. He's at risk of missing the 2025 season. He will only be able to play if he's released by the Texans with an injury settlement and signs with a team once he's fully healthy.

So the Texans couldn't just head into the season with two tight ends on the roster, so having Bryant there will be huge. He has been in the NFL for five years, playing with the Browns and Raiders before joining the Eagles this offseason.

In 78 games (33 starts), he reeled in 98 catches for 877 receiving yards, 10 touchdowns and 49 first-down receptions. Bryant will also play special teams if needed, as he's logged at least 25% of special team reps in four of his five campaigns.

An underrated factor in Bryant's game is his run-blocking ability. The Texans don't plan to lean on him much this season, but if they do, they have an NFL vet who has experience starting if needed.

There will be some other movement on the Texans' roster in the next few weeks, but they made sure to patch up the depth in the tight end room.
