The Houston Texans are officially back at training camp on July 22, as rookies and veterans are set to report to Houston Methodist Training Center.
The Texans have seen changes come to both sides of the ball, which included CB Ronald Darby retiring in June after inking a one-year deal with the club in March.
It created a hole in the secondary, but the Texans were able to add an experienced defender at the position. According to Cameron Wolfe, Houston is signing CB Arthur Maulet to a one-year deal. Wolfe adds that Maulet is healthy and ready for training camp after missing multiple games for the Baltimore Ravens in 2024.
Free agent CB Arthur Maulet tells me he signed a 1-year deal with the Houston Texans. He’s healthy & there for training camp.

Texans Sign Arthur Maulet Right Before Training Camp
Maulet is a seasoned vet, playing eight years in the NFL with the Jets, Saints, Colts, Steelers, and Ravens. In 85 career games (23 starts), he finished with 225 total tackles, 16 pass breakups, four interceptions, and five sacks.
One of his best seasons came in 2023 with the Ravens. The 32-year-old racked up 37 total tackles, five tackles for loss, five pass deflections, and two sacks. According to PFF, he had a 70.3 overall grade (51st among 229 graded cornerbacks), 80.3 pass rush grade (12th among 229 graded cornerbacks), 72.8 run defense grade (39th among 229 graded cornerbacks), and a 66.4 coverage grade (83rd among 229 graded cornerbacks).
Those PFF grades were all career highs, and it's the level of play he wants to get back to. Adding a player like Maulet to the fold will only benefit this group. They clearly value that kind of experience on the backend and wanted to make sure they added someone to the group ahead of camp.
Nothing is guaranteed for Maulet, as he'll need to earn his spot just like everyone else on the roster. Nonetheless, this is the kind of low-risk acquisition that Houston should be taking at this portion of the offseason.
Maulet is the third addition to the cornerback room for Houston this offseason, following Jaylin Smith and Damon Arnette.
