The Houston Texans are expected to be in the thick of things in the AFC South this season, which makes it imperative that they start off the 2025 campaign on the right foot.
If that in and of itself wasn't enough motivation for Texans QB C.J. Stroud to bring his best effort to the field this Sunday when Houston squares off against the Los Angeles Rams, the comments made by Rams DT Kobie Turner on Friday afternoon should do the trick.
While meeting with the media in Los Angeles on Friday, Turner praised Stroud for the talent he possesses before promising that the two would get to know each other much better by the time the clock runs out on Sunday afternoon.
Rams' Kobie Turner Has Big Plans for Showdown With Texans' C.J. Stroud
There will be, at least, five men between Turner and Stroud who will do everything in their power to ensure the 2023 third-round pick's prediction doesn't come to fruition. Regardless of that fact, Turner has gone on the record saying he plans on being the player who gets in the most hits against Houston's QB1 over the course of the game.
“I plan on having a lot of meetings with him in the backfield and I plan on having more meetings than everybody else,” Turner stated, according to the media in attendance.
It's always great to have a plan. That sense of preparation helps ease concerns for anyone, let alone a professional football player. There is an old saying, though, that Turner would be wise to remember. Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.
With Nico Collins fully healthy again after dealing with a lingering hamstring issue for much of the 2024 campaign, this Texans offense plans on punching plenty of opponents in the mouth early and often when they take the field each weekend. Houston's offensive attack has done this before to plenty of opposing defenses, and there is no reason to think they will stop now.
Since joining forces, the duo has combined to stuff the stat sheet for the Texans as Stroud has connected with Collins on 144 catches for 2,285 yards and 14 touchdowns in 26 games. With what looks like a relatively average secondary behind Turner, Stroud and Collins could be in for another big day against the Rams' defense.
Turner may get a few licks in on Stroud during their four quarters of game action this weekend. Whether that is enough to keep Houston from picking up a win over Los Angeles in its season-opener is a different question altogether. Texans fans will just have to wait and see how things play out this Sunday when the two sides take the field in Los Angeles with kickoff scheduled for 3:25 p.m. CT.
