The Houston Texans enter 2025 training camp with clarity at most postions, but less so at others. The offensive line is one area of the roster fans will pay close attention to given how many moves were made there this offseason.
Another position that will be in the spotlight at camp is tight end. Dalton Schultz is currently the headliner there, but he's been an overall disappointment since moving to his second Texas home. Meanwhile, 2024 rookie Cade Stover is off to a slow start to his career, and the options behind him are even less enticing.
That makes this room one that's likely to see an addition during camp to vie for a legitimate role or just push the others who are lacking. And luckily for Houston, a veteran released on Sunday perfectly fits the bill.

Noah Fant Makes Lots of Sense for Texans After Release
According to insider Jordan Schultz, the Seattle Seahawks have released TE Noah Fant to begin training camp. He's the exact kind of established veteran who'd put every single one of the Texans' current tight end options on notice if added to the mix.
Fant has been a model for consistent production at tight end since entering the league in 2019. He's posted between 414 and 673 yards over each of the past six years, hauling in a combined 15 scores through the air as well during that time.
Yes, Schultz has displayed higher upside in the NFL to this point after huge 2021 campaign that saw him post 808 yards and 8 TDs. Yet Schultz hasn't come close to those numbers since, and he's fresh off of posting his fewest receptions (53) and yards (532) since 2019 this past season.
Notably, Fant's 3,305 career receiving yards actually outpace Schultz's (3,289) despite having one less season of experience. And Fant is younger than Schultz, checking in at around 27.5 years old while the latter just turned 29 earlier this month.
At the very least, adding Fant would ensure Schultz has to look over his shoulder this preseason, instead of coasting given Houston's investment into him. Fant could also serve as a complement even if he doesn't usurp Schultz, especially in two-TE sets, giving C.J. Stroud another safety valve.
Fant shouldn't cost much to add, comes with little risk given his constant results as a pro, and has the resume to push a big-money player in Schultz. That makes him a great target for the Texans as they head into an important training camp.
