The Houston Texans knew they had to make improvements to their roster after the 2024 season. In the WR room, they had Tank Dell go down with a gruesome knee injury, and Stefon Diggs left in free agency.
Instead of sticking pat, they made sure to add some quality playmaker via the 2025 NFL draft, which saw Jayden Higgins get snagged with the 34th overall pick.
Despite being around for a couple of months, Higgins is making a name for himself quickly among his teammates and members of the media.
Jayden Higgins Has Already Emerged in Texans Offense
According to Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle, Higgins was trending up after OTAs. Alexander wrote, "Jayden Higgins, a second-round pick in April’s draft, looked as good as advertised. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound receiver caught just about every pass that came his way in team drills and made several plays. One was a deep touchdown catch from Davis Mills. He made another one-armed catch while being tightly covered by Lassiter on a deep pass from Stroud."
Alexander added, "It’s clear Higgins has skill and the potential to be the No. 2 wide receiver on this team. His combination of height and speed will give him a significant advantage similar to Nico Collins, his counterpart on the opposite side."
Collins couldn't hold back his excitement either, saying, "That boy is nice," back in May.
There's a reason that Houston added Higgins at the top of the second round, as some draft experts gave him a first-round grade.
The Iowa State product owns top-notch body control that allows him to rise to snag contested catches. The biggest trait that should get fans excited is his smooth and crisp route running. He's a natural mover with the ball in his hands and will provide Houston with another big body target on the outside.
In 48 collegiate games, Higgins had secured 227 receptions for 3,317 receiving yards and 28 touchdowns. He will quickly emerge as a starter for this team and will get the chance to continue building on his solid NFL start when training camp begins on July 22 down at the Houston Methodist Training Center.
