The Houston Texans entered the NFL offseason looking to hit the reset button on their offensive line and that's exactly what they've done. They traded underperforming blockers Laremy Tunsil and Kenyon Green to the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles, respectively, while offensive lineman Kendrick Green joined the Buffalo Bills via free agency.

With several offensive linemen leaving H-Town, Texans fans began to wonder who'd come in to fill their void. Fast forward to Wednesday when Houston finally added some much-needed protection for quarterback C.J. Stroud.

Texans Sign OT Cam Robinson in Free Agency

The Athletic's Dianna Russini is reporting that the Texans have signed veteran offensive tackle Cam Robinson to a one-year contract for the 2025 NFL season. The former 2017 second-rounders deal is worth $12 million and can rise to $14.5 million due to incentives.

The Texans needed to surround Stroud with better protection following an abysmal offensive performance across the frontline in 2024. Although Houston's Pro Football Focus offense grade wasn't the worst (75.9, 17th), the team's underwhelming marks in pass protection (65.3, 19th) and run blocking (58.4, 25th) highlighted the need to bolster the O-line.

Fortunately, Robinson is the perfect player for the job.

The former Alabama Crimson Tide OL oozes experience, having started in all 101 of his appearances across the last eight seasons. The majority of that time was spent playing with the Jacksonville Jaguars until he was traded to the Minnesota Vikings before last year's trade deadline.

Robinson has slowed down as he approaches his 30s, however, he was still a decent protector last season. He played to PFF grades of 67.2 and 60.0 for pass protection and run blocking, respectively, while playing nearly 1,100 snaps for the Jaguars and Vikings, making him more reliable than the majority of the Texans' in-house options.

If Robinson can come in and properly protect Stroud, great. If not, the veteran protector is only playing on a one-year deal, meaning he'll be off the books next offseason.

At the end of the day, a fresh start (and up to $14.5 million) might be enough of an incentive to help Robinson turn back the clock. Regardless, his signing was one the Texans needed to make — especially as the other notable OL names continue to fly off the board.

With their latest signing, the Texans will continue with their status as the odds-on AFC South favorites (+140) on FanDuel Sportsbook.
