NFL fans tend to love the offseason because of how exciting it can be to watch players sign with new teams. At the same time, the offseason can also be frustrating because it forces fans to say goodbye to beloved players, whether the divorce stems from declining play or a lucrative contract offer luring a free agent away.
The 2025 free agency period caused the Houston Texans fanbase to say goodbye to a familiar face this offseason. Veteran safety Eric Murray signed a three-year contract with the rival Jacksonville Jaguars earlier this week after spending the last five seasons with the Texans.
While losing Murray is unfortunate, it turns out that he isn't the only long-time Texan who's leaving H-Town.
Texans News: LS Jon Weeks Signs With San Francisco 49ers
On Thursday night, NFL insider Aaron Wilson reported that veteran long snapper Jon Weeks has signed a one-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers. The 39-year-old special teamer was the longest-serving Texan in franchise history, having suited up in 244 regular-season games since joining Houston as an undrafted free agent in 2010.
According to Spotrac, the contract is worth $1.422 million, with only $200,000 being guaranteed in signing bonuses.

It's hard to imagine the Texans' special teams unit without Weeks helping out. The former Baylor Bear didn't miss a single game with Houston throughout his 15-year run, leaving time to tell who will replace him and if they're capable of filling his void.
Although it'll be hard to replace his on-field contributions, Weeks' departure will also leave a void in the Texans community. The Bethpage, NY native has been frequently active with youth groups and charities since arriving in Houston and was even the franchise's Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee in 2023.
Following his departure, the Texans didn't waste any time honoring the long-time fan favorite with a social media post.
"Jon Weeks has been one of the most cherished members of our Texans family for more than 15 years," the McNair Family wrote on X. "We are incredibly grateful for all he has done for our organization during his time as a Texan. Jon and his family will always be special to us, and we wish him the absolute best in his next chapter."
As sad as it is to see Weeks leave for the Bay, it won't be long before he's back in Houston. The 49ers are already confirmed to be one of the Texans' 2025 home opponents, meaning fans can expect the beloved special teamer to be honored when he returns to NRG Stadium.
In the meantime, Texans fans wish Weeks nothing but the best in his future endeavors.
