The 2025 NFL Draft has come and gone but the Houston Texans are still looking for any and all players that could help give them an advantage on the gridiron once the 2025 regular season kicks off this fall.

While Joe Mixon is locked in as the obvious starter, the pecking order of backs behind him is still very much up in the air. Veteran Dameon Pierce is still on the roster, Dare Ogunbowale
signed a one-year deal as a free agent, and the Texans invested a fourth-round pick on Woody Marks out of the University of Southern California.

That has given them a crowded running back room (especially when you consider that J.J. Taylor and Jawhar Jordan are under contract as well), but it hasn't stopped the team from exploring more additions.

Texans Working Out Free Agent RB Chris Evans

Despite their wealth of running back depth, Houston's front office is still evaluating all options at the position and will reportedly hold a workout for veteran rusher Chris Evans later this week, per Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston.

Evans has a great deal of familiarity with Mixon, as the two were teammates during their time with the Cincinnati Bengals. Much like he did while with the Bengals, Evans has the skills to be used in a wide variety of ways beyond simply rushing the ball. The former Michigan Wolverines standout has experience on special teams as a kick returner and is more than capable of catching passes out of the backfield.

Unfortunately, Evans suffered a ruptured patellar tendon, which cut short his 2024 season before it ever had a chance to get off the ground. However, he will have the opportunity to show what he is capable of contributing to the Texans' success during his workout for the coaching staff on Thursday.

If Evans has a good showing, it wouldn't be out of the question to see the front office extend a contract his way in order to get him locked in for training camp this fall.
