The Houston Texans have a pivotal offseason in front of them. After getting bounced in the divisional round in each of the last two seasons, it's all about taking that next step.
The Texans have built a great foundation of young players, so naturally the next step will be giving some of those promising players contract extensions. One player who is eligible for an extension is cornerback Derek Stingley and general manager Nick Caserio spoke about the possibility of an extension at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Texans Open to Extension With Derek Stingley
Caserio said, "Derek's a great player. He's expressed sentiments of wanting to be here. We want Derek to be here. There's a process we will have to go through. Got a good working relationship with David, so we'll see where that leads us. But Derek has earned the opportunity here because of his play. Because of his performance and the fact that he wants to be here. It's because of the players in the locker room. It's because of what DeMeco has done with the program to put us in the position that we're in."

Stingley was the third overall pick during the 2022 NFL Draft and has developed into an exciting difference-maker in the secondary.
The LSU product can thrive in both man and zone coverage while making plays on the ball. He's coming off the best season of his career, where he posted career highs in total tackles (54), pass deflections (18), and interceptions (5).
According to PFF, Stingley had a 73.9 overall grade (30th among 223 eligible corners) and a 74.9 coverage grade (22nd among 223 eligible cornerbacks).
He's shown the ability to blanket No. 1 WRs, and those types of players land massive deals. Jalen Ramsey, Patrick Surtain II, Jaire Alexander, A.J. Terrell, and Denzel Ward all make $20 million-plus annually. Stingley will look to join that club with his extension, and the Texans are open to it as well.
