The Houston Texans made a small roster move on Thursday, with rookie minicamp scheduled for next week. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC-2, the Texans cut ties with former Texas A&M defensive lineman Jayden Peevy.

Peevy was signed to the Texans’ practice squad late last season after being cut by the Carolina Panthers in October. The former Aggie defender didn’t appear in any games with the Texans, but was signed to a futures/reserve deal in January after Houston’s season ended in the NFL playoffs.
It’s not surprising the Texans parted ways with Peevy ahead of rookie minicamp. They have a ton of depth at the defensive tackle spot, which now includes seventh-round pick Kyonte Hamilton.
The 6-foot-5, 308-pound defender went undrafted following the 2022 NFL Draft, but landed with the Tennessee Titans. Peevy was cut at the end of the preseason, but was immediately signed to the practice squad.
The former Texas A&M defensive lineman appeared in one game with the Titans and was signed to a reserve/future deal for the 2023 campaign.
The Titans waived Peavy in mid-September of that season, but he was re-signed to the taxi squad and then released on Oct. 9, 2023. After his short stint with the Titans, Peevy took his talents to the AFC North.
The Cleveland Browns signed Peevy to a reserve/future contract at the end of the 2023 season, but he didn’t make the final 53-man roster. The Browns cut Peevy in June 2024, but he signed with the Carolina Panthers almost a month later.
The Panthers waived Peevy before the 53-man roster deadline but immediately re-signed him to the practice squad. The Panthers elevated Peevy to the active roster in September. The former Texas A&M defender appeared in four games, posting six combined tackles, three QB hits, 1.5 sacks, a tackle for loss, a pass deflection, and a forced fumble.
Given that the former Texans defender has some NFL experience, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him latch on with another team before training camp begins this summer.
