Former Houston Texans wide receiver Stefon Diggs is still without a new team as we enter the third week of NFL free agency.
The veteran wide receiver only played half of the season with the Texans before suffering a torn ACL in Week 8, effectively ending his 2024 campaign. Based on his age, injury, and other WRs on the market, it doesn’t come as too much of a surprise to see Diggs unsigned.
That said, the former Houston wide receiver did receive some interest from the New England Patriots, a team that needs a bona fide WR1. The star wideout reportedly visited the Pats this past week.
In his weekly Pats column, ESPN’s Mike Reiss provided more insight into the meeting and had an interesting update regarding Diggs’ health. According to Reiss, Diggs is “ahead of schedule” and already running “full speed.”
If you are a prospective team looking for a wide receiver like the Patriots, then this is good news. It’s also great news from Diggs’ perspective. The veteran being ahead of schedule in his rehab could create a market in the weeks leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft.
If you're in Diggs' shoes, you likely want to find an opportunity before the NFL draft instead of waiting after the three-day extravaganza.
Based on their moves at wide receiver this offseason, it's unlikely that the Texans will bring back Diggs. Even though in the eight games he played in, the star playmaker produced 47 receptions (64 targets) for 496 yards and three touchdowns.
However, Houston seems content with the guys that they have on the roster and could take a rookie wide receiver in next month’s draft to grow with their core.
