The Houston Rockets have been active to start this offseason, as they retool their roster after a relatively successful 2024-25 season.
The Rockets have signed a couple of veterans like Clint Capela and Dorian Finney-Smith, who should help out next season. However, Houston made the biggest splash of the offseason, as they acquired Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns in a blockbuster seven-team trade.
The record-breaking trade had a ton of moving parts as the Rockets sent out Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 overall pick to Phoenix, the No. 59 overall pick to Memphis, and David Roddy to the Atlanta Hawks.
Ex-Rockets Forward David Roddy Already Sent Packing by Hawks
While most Rockets fans were more focused on Green and Brooks being shipped out, Roddy returning to the Hawks went under the radar. The young forward was with Atlanta for the first part of the 2024-25 season before the Hawks waived him.
It appears that Atlanta isn’t keeping the ex-Rockets forward, as they announced on Monday that they’ve requested waivers on Roddy.
We have requested waivers on two-way forward David Roddy. Roddy was acquired from the Houston Rockets on July 6, 2025.

The 24-year-old Roddy appeared in 24 games with the Hawks this past season, averaging 4.5 points and 2.6 rebounds in 12.8 minutes per game. Atlanta clearly didn’t envision him as part of their long-term plans and sent him packing.
Roddy had a cup of coffee with the 76ers on a 10-day and eventually a two-way deal for a few weeks in February before they cut him loose. However, the Rockets came along and gave him a two-way contract in March.
The former Colorado State star appeared in three games with the Rockets, as he played 15 games with their NBA G League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. The former first-round pick played well with RGV, scoring 15.4 points per game on 50.4 percent shooting from the field and 42.7 percent from beyond the arc.
The ex-Rockets forward hasn’t had the best luck to start his NBA career, but he should find an opportunity soon after clearing waivers, especially with the NBA Summer League getting underway.
