The Houston Texans wrapped up their mandatory minicamp on Wednesday. They will take the next few weeks off to recharge before coming back next month for training camp.
However, not everything is going well for the team as the Texans received shocking news regarding one of their starters. According to Aaron Wilson of KRPC-2, Houston veteran safety Jimmie Ward was reportedly arrested on a felony domestic violence charge involving an altercation at his home.

Wilson adds that the veteran defensive back remains in jail without bail. When the news was released about Ward’s arrest, the Texans said in a statement:
“We are aware of the report involving Jimmie Ward,” a team spokesman told KPRC 2. “We are gathering information and have no further comment at this time.”
The NFL also chimed in with its statement regarding Ward’s arrest. “We are aware of the matter and have been in contact with the club. We have no further comment at this time,” said NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy.
That said, with this being an off-the-field legal situation, Ward’s case will be investigated by the NFL under its personal conduct policy.
The 33-year-old Ward has spent two years with the Texans after signing a one-year, $10.5 million contract extension last August. That said, the veteran defensive back is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in 2026.
Last season, Ward only appeared in 10 games due to injury. He had 48 combined tackles, five tackles for loss, four pass deflections, and two interceptions.
The veteran defender reportedly underwent offseason foot surgery, but has been rehabbing at the Texans' practice facility. Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans told reporters earlier this offseason that Ward is out of his walking boot and started running again.
The veteran also suited up in 10 games in 2023 with the Texans because of injury again.
