The Houston Texans made a bunch of changes to their roster in an attempt to get further in the postseason. A lot of moves came along the offensive line, as they parted ways with Laremy Tunsil, Shaq Mason, and Kenyon Green.
They felt that unit wasn't good enough to hold up in 2025, and they wanted to go in a different direction. In free agency, Houston added Cam Robinson on a one-year deal that's worth up to $14.5 million.
Cam Robinson Already Emerging as Free-Agent Steal for Texans
He will step in at left tackle and be tasked with protecting CJ Stroud. Throughout spring workouts, he was already working with the starters. It's clear he will be their starter on Day 1, and that's exactly what they expected. Considering they took Aireontae Ersery in the second round, who was a three-year starter at Minnesota, the seasoned vet is already leading the battle.
In his eight-year career with the Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars, he had 101 starts under his belt. Over the last four seasons, he's finished with at least a 64 overall grade and a 70 pass blocking grade according to PFF.
Jonathan M Alexander of the Houston Chronicle wrote that Robinson was among the five linemen who looked the best in OTAs. He wrote, "The group that has shown most promise are the ones that include Cam Robinson, Laken Tomlinson, Jarrett Patterson, Howard and Ersery."
Meanwhile, during a minicamp practice, Robinson was seen picking up a stunt smoothly, showcasing that the communication is already on the right track.

Hard to see what happens on the right side of the OL but the left side which is Cam Robinson/Jaylon Thomas/Jake Andrews does a nice job in stunt pickup along with RB J.J. Taylor pic.twitter.com/p5wOWTGEOX
It highlights that he has all the tools needed to be an effective pass protector, and that's important since the Texans have a 23-year-old star under center. He's consistently worked with the first team, and that shows the coaching staff already believes he's one of the best of the five linemen.
Houston gave Robinson $10.75 million guaranteed, but since it's only a one-year deal, it's a low-risk, high-reward kind of contract. Even during his opening presser Robinson stated he signed with Houston due to their great culture and having Stroud on the team. He also added that he lives in Dallas, so being in Texas was a bonus.
With training camp starting next month, it'll give Robinson more time to continue building off a strong spring and get ready to hit the ground running.
Tunsil was an anchor at left tackle but led the league with 19 penalties in 2024. Meanwhile, Robinson had 13, which is still too high, but six fewer than what Tunsil committed.
Robinson is poised to be a pivotal piece to the offensive line, but it looks like he's ready for the test.
