Despite going 10-7 and making it to the divisional round for the second straight season, the Houston Texans made massive changes to start the offseason.

On Monday, the Texans traded OT Laremy Tunsil to the Washington Commanders for draft compensation in a shocking move. Houston received third and seventh-rounders in 2025 with second and fourth-rounders in 2026.

That is a nice haul for Tunsil, but trading away a Pro Bowl lineman wasn't on the bingo card for Texans fans. Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported that Tunsil's inability to lead played a role in why he was traded away.

After a couple of days had passed, Tunsil penned a farewell message to the city of Houston and Texans fans.

Laremy Tunsil Says Goodbye to Houston

Tunsil wrote, "I didn't know what to expect, but from the moment I arrived, this city embraced me and my family with open arms. Houston became more than just a place I played football it became home. Over the years, I've grown not just as a player but as a man, and this city will always hold a special place in my heart."

He added, "Houston, you welcomed me as one of your own, and for that, I will always be grateful. With love, LT."

Tunsil arrived in Houston in 2021 and provided them with a star LT. He was named to the Pro Bowl in four of his five seasons, but the Texans believe his best days are behind him and didn't want to hand him another big-time extension.

Despite what Houston says, Tunsil was still a reliable force for Houston. Per PFF, he had a 76.5 overall grade (23rd among 141 eligible tackles), an 88.6 pass-blocking grade (4th among 141 eligible tackles), and a 73.6 run-blocking grade (25th among 141 eligible tackles) in 2024.

He will now be tasked with protecting Jayden Daniels' blindside. Meanwhile, in Houston, they plan to move Tytus Howard out to left tackle and start Blake Fisher at right tackle.

The Texans also added Ed Ingram and Laken Tomlinson along the interior, as they reshuffle their offensive line.

It may have been tough for fans to say goodbye to Tunsil, but both sides have officially turned the page.
