The Houston Texans have made a myriad of offseason moves to attempt to take a meaningful step forward in the 2025 season. After being the media darlings of the AFC for the 2024 season, the team suffered an uneven season that resulted in a swift playoff exit. This brought a sense of urgency to a front office that believes they have the most important piece to make a deep playoff run in quarterback C.J. Stroud.

One notable improvement the team made was signing former Minnesota tackle Cam Robinson. It was an effort to shore up the offensive line and give Stroud improved protection. Robinson isn't the only former Viking the team should have an eye on ,with corner Stephon Gilmore an obvious fit. The veteran continuing his career in Houston makes sense for both sides.

Stephon Gilmore Should Follow Cam Robinson to Houston as the Final Piece of the Texans' Defense

It seems every time Gilmore appears to be nearing the end of his career, the veteran reinvents himself. The ability to have had an impact in so many landing spots is a defining trait of the veteran's impressive career. One that should continue by reuniting with Robinson in Houston.

While the team's biggest position of need is adding guards to further Stroud's protection, the secondary could use improved depth as well. Gilmore offers depth and a defender that you can use in a number of ways. At this stage of his career, the veteran's price tag isn't going to be out of Houston's comfort zone and would be an easy improvement to make.

These are the type of small additions Houston must make if they're serious about taking a step forward. In a conference with Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and Joe Burrow, making any type of meaningful run is always going to be an uphill battle.

One that demands you do everything in your power to improve, even in the smallest ways possible. Signing Gilmore may not grab many headlines; however, it gives your defense a chance to take a huge step forward. At the absolute worst, it is a solid depth move giving Gilmore a chance to continue his career and the Texans some much-needed depth in the secondary.
