The Houston Texans return to the football field on Wednesday for their first training camp practice. Texans fans can't wait to see what the new look offense looks like and how all the new receivers factor in. This offseason, Houston added multiple receivers, including veterans Christian Kirk and Justin Watson, as well as rookies Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel.
That said, one former Texans receiver recently tried out with one of their biggest AFC rivals. According to Nick Jacobs of KSHB 41 News in Kansas City, the Chiefs held tryouts for multiple wide receivers, including Amari Rodgers, on Tuesday. Rodgers' tryout came in the wake of Kansas City releasing wide receiver Justyn Ross.
The #Chiefs have signed WR Hal Presley. He was an undrafted free agent out of Baylor that was previously waived by the Bills. KC also had tryouts with WR Amari Rodgers and WR Seth Williams. @KSHB41 @41IsTheMic

Former Texans WR Amari Rodgers Attended a Tryout with the Chiefs
Texans fans became familiar with Rodgers during his six-game stint with the franchise in 2022. In those six games, the 25-year-old recorded 12 receptions on 17 targets for 154 yards and one touchdown. Those stats put him as the fifth among receivers in yards, which is decent for a player who was claimed off waivers after the midway point of the season.
Prior to his time in Houston, Rodgers played with the Green Bay Packers. With Green Bay, he contributed in both the return game and as a receiver. In the return game, Rodgers logged 40 punt returns for 305 yards and 17 kickoff returns for 321 yards
As a receiver, he caught only eight passes for 95 yards. Last year, the 25-year-old was not on an NFL roster or practice squad. As it stands, Rodgers still remains without a job.
However, even if he had impressed during his tryout with the Chiefs, the likelihood he would have made the initial 53-man roster would have been slim. Rodgers would have been battling players like Skyy Moore, Tyquan Thornton, and Nikko Remigio to make it.
Nevertheless, the fact that Kansas City reached out to Rodgers proves that the Texans' receiving corps is in a better place than the Chiefs.
