With training camp starting next month across the NFL, some teams are making last-minute changes to their 90-man roster.
During the offseason, the 90-man roster is an ever-changing process, as players come and go as teams try to find the best players to compete for spots on the 53-man roster or practice squad.
For veterans still seeking an opportunity before the regular season, they have several weeks to secure a roster spot. One former Houston Texans specialist has latched on with a new team before training camp, after getting little to no interest most of the offseason.
On Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC-2 reported that former Texans long snapper Tucker Addington is expected to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
#Steelers expected to sign veteran long snapper Tucker Addington, per a league source. New Braunfels native last with #Texans and has snapped for multiple #NFL teams including #Patriots #Dolphins #Cowboys #Jaguars #Commanders @SamHoustonState @KPRC2

Houston waived the 25-year-old Addington last week to make room on the 90-man roster for new signing Damon Arnette Jr. It made sense for the Texans to part ways with Addington as they signed undrafted free agent long snapper Austin Brinkman to a three-year, $2.97M deal following the 2025 NFL Draft.
Going back to Addington, the former Sam Houston State standout signed a futures deal with the Texans in February after spending the 2024 season with three different teams – Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, and New England Patriots.
Addington appeared in three games with the Dolphins and one with the Patriots. He didn’t see any time with the Jaguars, who only kept him on the practice squad for a week in December.
It’s not easy for long snappers to come across potential new opportunities in the league, as most teams have their long snappers locked in for multiple years. Addington hasn’t been able to land a starting gig, despite playing in six combined games with the Washington Commanders (2022) and Patriots (2023).
Addington also has experience playing spring football, as he appeared in 10 games for the Houston Gamblers in the USFL in 2022. Now the former Texan will compete with Christian Kuntz for the starting job in the Steel City this summer.
