The Houston Texans will return to action next week when their annual training camp is held at the Houston Methodist Training Center, beginning on Tuesday, July 22. The upcoming practices and subsequent preseason slate will give Texans fans a better sense of the team's outlook before they chase a third consecutive AFC South title next season.

As head coach DeMeco Ryans and this year's roster prepare for a grueling slew of summertime workouts, some former Texans are still waiting for their next NFL opportunity. The list of unemployed ex-players includes one former Houston third-rounder whom fans will remember all too well.

Former Texans RB D'Onta Foreman Is Still Unsigned Before Training Camp

Former Texans running back D'Onta Foreman is one of the many veterans still looking to join a new NFL team this offseason. The 89th overall selection of the 2017 NFL draft has been unemployed since finishing the 2024 campaign with the Cleveland Browns, leaving time to tell if his job search will end any time soon.

Eventually, a combination of a poor attitude and medical concerns led to Foreman being waived by Houston in August 2019.

Foreman was brimming with potential when he was drafted by the Texans, but injuries throughout his career have prevented him from consistently reaching his ceiling. The former Texas Longhorn has only played 63 games (24 starts) since the 2017 campaign, which includes only reaching double-digit outings three times. He's only played all 17 games once (2022) and was limited to 11 appearances with the Browns last season.

During his time in Cleveland, Foreman tallied 232 rushing yards on 71 carries and 54 receiving yards on six catches, all while failing to score a touchdown for the first time in his career. His 3.7 scrimmage yards per touch made for his worst output since 2018 (3.0), and his Pro Football Focus grades for running (58.5) and overall offense (52.8) were also his worst efforts during that stretch.

Given that he just turned 29 years old in April, it's hard to imagine Foreman's health or performance improving at this stage of his career. A training camp invite or signing due to a backfield-related injury seems to be the former Texan's most likely paths to making an NFL roster; however, neither method is guaranteed to work.

In other words, Foreman is likely a lot closer to the end of his NFL career than the beginning. The silver lining in his situation is that he's made over $8.9 million in career earnings, according to Spotrac, which means he should be able to live out a comfortable life if he were smart with his money.
