Former Houston Texans offensive lineman Tremayne Anchrum Jr. has joined a new team after being released by Houston last month.

On Friday, Aaron Wilson of KRPC-2 in Houston reported that Anchrum Jr. has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. Texans fans likely weren't brimming with excitement, given that the Chiefs eliminated Houston in the NFL playoffs last year.

That said, the 26-year-old lineman has the versatility to play tackle and guard, which could help him in his quest to make the Chiefs’ 53-man roster this summer. Anchrum Jr. signed with the Texans at the start of November last season after the New Orleans Saints released him before the 53-man roster deadline in August.

Anchrum didn’t play in the regular season with the Texans last year and ultimately signed to a futures deal earlier this year.

However, before Anchrum latched on with the Texans, he played in the preseason with the Saints. He had originally signed with the Seattle Seahawks last year in free agency, but they cut ties with him at the start of training camp.

Nonetheless, Anchrum made the most of his opportunities with the Saints.

The former Los Angeles Rams’ draft pick wasn’t the best in run blocking last summer, with a 51.0 grade (147th among 182 qualified guards), per Pro Football Focus. However, Anchrum produced an 85 pass blocking grade (15th) in 99 offensive snaps.

The Clemson offensive lineman was originally selected by the Rams in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He spent three years in Los Angeles, appearing in 31 games but only making one start.

The 6-foot-2, 314-pound lineman had a couple of injured reserve stints in 2021 and ‘22, which kept him off the field. However, the ex-Texan is getting one more chance to show he deserves a spot on someone’s 53-man roster.
