Houston Texans fans may not remember veteran defensive tackle P.J. Hall. Hall, a former second-round pick of the then-Oakland Raiders, surprisingly joined the Texans after he was released two years into his rookie contract.

The former Sam Houston State defender appeared in 10 games during the 2020 season with the Texans. Hall had 34 combined tackles, two tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, and a sack.

Sadly, Hall’s tenure with the Texans was cut short by a torn pectoral injury, which forced him to go on injured reserve. That was the last time he played in the NFL. However, the former Texan defender returned to the gridiron, playing spring football in the XFL and UFL.

In 2023, Hall played in the XFL with the Seattle SeaDragons and San Antonio Brahmas. Then last year, the former Texan played in the UFL with the Memphis Showboats. Hall re-joined the Showboats for the 2025 season, but won’t finish the year with them.

According to James Larsen of UFL Newsroom, the Memphis Showboats released the former Texans defender earlier this week. The UFL announced the transaction on Monday night.

Larsen reports that Hall’s release from the Showboats wasn’t about his on-field production but about stuff happening behind the scenes. In five games with Memphis, Hall had 17 total tackles and a sack. He also had an 86.2 overall grade on Pro Football Focus, which is pretty good at all levels of football.

Nonetheless, with the UFL season past the halfway point, it will be interesting to see if the other teams sign Hall. If the former Texan finished the season with strong performances, he could’ve landed a workout with an NFL team ahead of training camp.

However, that might not be the case for the former Texans defender, who has struggled to find his footing in pro football.
