The NFL offseason is a time when fans are forced to say goodbye to veteran players, and the Houston Texans aren't an exception. According to Spotrac, a total of 19 Texans free agents have already signed with new teams or are still available since the offseason began, signaling quite the change in Houston.
Some departing Texans will potentially thrive in their new surroundings, however, success is never guaranteed in the NFL. In fact, one of Houston's departing free agents is more likely to fail than not with his new team.
Former Texans LB Devin White Will Fail With Raiders in 2025
Several veteran defenders left the Texans throughout the last few weeks, including Devin White. The former 2019 fifth-overall pick left Houston after less than one season with the franchise, signing a one-year contract for $1.17 million with the Las Vegas Raiders on March 28.
The 2024 campaign was a rollercoaster ride for White, to say the least. The ex-LSU Tiger began the season with the Philadelphia Eagles but missed the start of the year due to injury. He didn't end up playing a game with the Eagles as he openly complained about his situation, resulting in his being waived on Oct. 8 before signing with the Texans two weeks later.
After making his way to H-Town, White played 176 defensive snaps across seven games (1 start). He didn't make much of an impact, though, recording only 15 solo tackles while tallying underwhelming Pro Football Focus grades in terms of defense (57.0), tackling (46.4), and pass rushing (37.7).
Making matters worse, White was inactive for both of the Texans' postseason games. Considering his status as a former Super Bowl winner, the fact that he couldn't play a single playoff snap suggests that his career might be closer to the end than some fans thought.
At the end of the day, it'd be surprising if White didn't fail with the Raiders. For starters, Las Vegas is among the NFL's worst teams and just finished the 2024 season with the fourth-worst PFF defense grade, meaning the 27-year-old LB isn't exactly entering the most favorable environment.
Secondly, recent history proves that White struggles to stick around wherever he goes. The Raiders mark the fourth franchise he's been a part of since the start of the 2023 season, and last year's off-field issues with the Eagles could lead to his potentially being on a tight leash in Sin City.
If White finds himself in any drama, it likely won't take the Raiders long to cut ties — especially with how cheap his contract is.
The AFC South and AFC West will be duking it out in 2025, and the Raiders have already been confirmed as one of the Texans' home opponents. In other words, it won't be long before Houston fans have a front-row seat to see White fail with his new employer.
