Earlier this offseason, the Houston Texans parted ways with several free agents, including veteran offensive lineman Kendrick Green.

Green joined the Texans before the start of the 2023 season, as Houston acquired him from the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick. Green didn’t play much in his first season with the Texans (four games played, three starts) because of a torn meniscus that put him on injured reserve.

Before going down with the knee injury, Green was playing well as he didn’t allow a sack in 208 total snaps, per Pro Football Focus.

That said, the former third-round pick entered the 2024 season looking to win the starting left guard post. He didn’t get the job as that went to former first-round pick Kenyon Green. As for Kendrick Green, he only started in one game last season.

Therefore, it wasn’t surprising to see him depart Houston and sign a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills this offseason.

However, the 26-year-old offensive lineman isn’t guaranteed to start or make the 53-man roster later this summer with the Bills. Green is listed on the Bills’ roster as a center, but Buffalo is set at that spot.

The Bills have Connor McGovern locked in as the starter, with second-year lineman Sedrick Van Pran as the backup. But Van Pran is also listed at guard too, given him positional versatility.

In their latest 53-man roster predictions/projections, Jay Skurski of the Buffalo News and Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic both have Green not making the 53-man roster. The Bills usually keep nine or 10 offensive linemen for camp, which one would think bodes well for Green, given his NFL experience.

However, the fact that neither beat writer has the former Texan making the 53-man roster is not a good sign heading into training camp. Green has a lot of work to do to prove to the Bills that he’s worthy a roster spot. If not, ex-Texans lineman could be looking for another opportunity in the next several weeks.
