The free agency craze is over, and NBA teams have largely finalized their rosters for the 2025-26 campaign. There are a few remaining restricted free agents who could still make an impact, but otherwise, NBA fans can expect a quiet next few weeks before training camp and preseason kick off.

During this time, minor transactions will continue to trickle in, including NBA G League signings, two-way deals, minimum contracts, and decisions to head overseas. These deals will include former Houston Rockets players who are hoping to find their next homes.

On Tuesday, it was a former Rockets forward who decided on his basketball future. Jack McVeigh, who spent last season on a two-way deal with the Rockets, is reportedly heading back to his home country, Australia, for his next contract. The 29-year-old shooter signed a two-year contract with the Cairns Taipans, per an official team announcement.

Former Rocket Jack McVeigh Signs With NBL Team Despite Impressive Summer League

This has to be a disappointing outcome for McVeigh, who has recently expressed his desire to land another NBA opportunity, per Hoops Rumors. He has also done all he could during the Summer League to prove his worth to NBA teams, hitting 45.5% of his threes for the Atlanta Hawks summer team. McVeigh averaged 14 points and 2.5 rebounds in 22.8 minutes per game in four appearances in Las Vegas.

Despite NBA teams' constant search for more shooting, McVeigh wasn't able to turn his hot summer streak into an NBA contract. Considering his age and limited upside, this may have been the last opportunity for the 6'8" forward to get an NBA deal.

Last season, McVeigh appeared in nine games for the Rockets and spent most of his time in the G League. For the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, McVeigh averaged 16.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game on 37% shooting from downtown.

For a player whose calling card is shooting, perhaps this was not a high enough mark to get another look in the NBA. Whether McVeigh will defy all odds and make another appearance in the league remains to be seen.
