The Houston Astros are enjoying quite the start to the 2025 season as the franchise finds itself sitting at the top of the AL West with a record of 56-40, five games clear of the Seattle Mariners, at the All-Star break.
While there are several topics to touch on this week relating to the Astros and their success this season, there has been plenty of attention given to a player no longer on Houston's roster and how his time with the organization came to an end this past offseason.
That player is none other than longtime Astros fan-favorite Alex Bregman and the, now, Boston Red Sox star was happy to share his thoughts on the ending of his run in Houston as well as whether he'd have interest in a reunion down the road.
Alex Bregman Shares Heartbreaking Truth About Houston Astros Exit
After giving his former teammates their flowers by saying he isn't surprised in the slightest to see the great start the Astros have gotten off to, the conversation turned to Bregman's experiences as a free agent and, ultimately, the decision to leave Houston.
Houston acquired Isaac Paredes from the Chicago Cubs in December 2024 as part of the deal that sent Kyle Tucker to the Windy City. At that moment, whether fans realized it or not, the writing was on the wall that Bregman's time in Space City had likely come to an end.
Despite that being the case, as you can see from the video clip below, courtesy of SportsTalk 790, Bregman held out hope that there could still be a spot for him in Houston moving forward before accepting the harsh reality that it was time for him to move on.

"I didn't really know what was really going to happen during free agency," Bregman replied when asked if he thought he could return after the Paredes acquisition. "But, I feel like, yeah, until the end. Yeah."
Paredes has gone on to be a success in Houston, and that has made seeing Bregman suit up for the Red Sox an easier pill to swallow for Astros fans. Moving on from a fan-favorite is never easy, but winning cures all in sports, and Paredes has helped the team do plenty of that since arriving.
Bregman was the No. 2 pick in the 2015 MLB Draft by Houston for a reason; his .273 career batting average with the Astros, 202 home runs, and 698 RBI prove the investment was a worthwhile one. While he may have wished for a different end to his tenure with the Astros, he helped the franchise win a pair of World Series championships.
That is something that he will forever be remembered for in the Lone Star State.
