At this stage of the preseason, teams across the league are beginning to cut down their rosters to 90 players ahead of the deadline later this month.

At the same time, teams are also hosting veteran players for tryouts to see if they can provide depth and competition for the remainder of the preseason. The Houston Texans recently went through this process. They hosted veteran defensive back Jalen Mills for a workout and then signed him to the 90-man roster.

Meanwhile, several former Texans players are trying to put their best foot forward with their new teams in hopes of making the 53-man roster. One ex-Houston quarterback had his opportunity cut short on Monday after a disastrous performance in the preseason.

Ex-Texans QB Tim Boyle Gets Shown the Door by Tennessee Titans

On Monday, former Texans quarterback Tim Boyle was waived by the Tennessee Titans, per Jim Wyatt of Titans.com.

The 30-year-old Boyle joined the Titans earlier this offseason on a one-year deal after spending last season with the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins. The former Texan didn’t play well in the preseason opener last weekend against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The journeyman QB completed 4-of-13 passes for 24 yards and two interceptions. He also had a rating of 0.6, which is unfathomable to think about, especially given how long Boyle has been in the NFL.

Texans fans likely won’t remember Boyle’s short time in Houston, as he never played in a game for the franchise. Houston signed the veteran QB to its practice squad late in that 2023 season after he was waived by the New York Jets.

After the 2023 season ended for the Texans, they signed Boyle to a futures deal on January 22, 2024, giving him a chance to make the team the next summer.

Boyle wasn’t bad in the preseason last summer as he completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns. However, it wasn’t enough for Houston to keep him on the taxi squad, as they cut him at the end of the preseason.

But the Miami Dolphins scooped him up a couple of days later, where he actually played in two games and also played in a game for the Giants.

Even though Boyle hasn’t even been an average quarterback, he somehow manages to find himself a job. Therefore, don’t be surprised if the ex-Texan is back working out for interested teams in the near future, especially closer to Week 1 of the regular season.
