The Houston Texans have been active this offseason in terms of moving on from players while bringing in other guys. The 2025 NFL Draft is just about two weeks away and that will give teams in the league one last time to add serious difference-makers to the team.
The Texans have multiple holes on the roster, with wide receiver being one of them. They lost Stefon Diggs in free agency, who ended up signing with the New England Patriots. Robert Woods also hit free agency after his deal ran out and is still on the open market.
Robert Woods Reunion Makes Sense for Texans as Draft Approaches
Despite not being re-signed, his time in Houston may not be over yet. Outside of Nico Collins and Christian Kirk, the Texans don't have another reliable WR. The Texans will likely add more to that position group in the NFL Draft but bringing back Woods shouldn't be out of the cards just yet.
The 32-year-old may no longer be in his prime anymore but he can still run routes well and could provide the team with a veteran mentor in the locker room. In two seasons with the Texans, Woods had 60 receptions for 629 yards and one touchdown.
He's finished with at least 400 total snaps with the Texans from 2023-2024, showcasing he can still chew up reps. With Tank Dell's status for the 2025 season up in the air, bringing back Woods wouldn't be the worst decision.
In his 12-year career, Woods has logged 683 receptions (1,093 targets) for 8,233 receiving yards and 38 touchdowns.
The USC product could be someone the Texans seek to bring back following the NFL Draft after they've filled in the biggest holes they believe remained on the roster.
Every year teams sign veteran players to provide another voice in the locker room while being another teacher for younger players. That would be a smart choice for a Texans team that needs more bodies at WR in 2025.
