Former Houston Texans star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins made his first Super Bowl appearance in his career, suiting up for the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 59.
For Hopkins, this was years in the making. He’s accomplished almost everything as a player, except getting to and playing in the Super Bowl. The veteran wideout got that chance as Kansas City was looking to three-peat against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
However, things didn’t work out in Hopkins and the Chiefs’ favor as the Eagles defeated Kansas City 40-22. Hopkins scored a touchdown late in the second half, but it didn’t matter as the game was decided.
After the game ended, the veteran receiver had some interesting comments about the officiating and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Hopkins said about Mahomes, “He’s human.” As you can imagine fans on social media drew their own conclusions about that statement.
The veteran receiver is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent and it's not guaranteed that Hopkins will be back in KC after his comments about Mahomes. Therefore, could Hopkins return to Houston? It should not be ruled based on his comments from two years ago.
In Jun. 2023, Brooks Kubina of the Houston Chronicle reported that the veteran wide receiver was open to reuniting with the Texans.
Fast forward two years later and the idea of Hopkins returning to Houston isn’t farfetched as the Texans might have a big need at wide receiver with Stefon Diggs also being a free agent.
Diggs only played eight games with the Texans this season after suffering a torn ACL. But if they feel he can be that guy for Stroud post-injury, Diggs could be back in Houston for at least a few more seasons.
However, other wide receivers like Tee Higgins, Cooper Kupp, and Deebo Samuel could also be on the Texans’ radar.
As for Hopkins, if the Texans were to consider signing him in free agency, he would not be their No. 1 wide receiver as his numbers took a noticeable dip this season between the Tennessee Titans and Chiefs. But as a No. 2 option next to Nico Collins, it wouldn’t be a bad idea given that Tank Dell is coming back from a devastating leg injury.
