The Houston Texans fell short in Week 1, losing to the Los Angeles Rams 14-9 with another pathetic offensive performance. Scoring a paltry nine points is unacceptable, and there's no reason to believe that anyone believes it's a good effort.

Blake Fisher is an interesting player to watch moving forward, as he could be an underrated tackle who could change the tides for an offensive line that's struggled to a significant degree during his tenure.

Whether or not he succeeds moving forward, it's obvious that he's failed to this point. If you want any more evidence, just look to Week 1.

Texans OL Blake Fisher Struggles in Week 1 After Poor Rookie Campaign

NFL insider Aaron Wilson noted that Texans tackle Blake Fisher gave up a 15-yard personal foul for a penalty. There's obviously no reason to do something like that, and it speaks to the inexperience that we're seeing from the 22-year-old lineman.

Fisher is an important part of the future and given how much the offensive line has struggled, his success is paramount. That he isn't responsible enough to avoid these types of mistakes is an issue, despite head coach DeMeco Ryans' best efforts to curb his team's immaturity.

Fisher, who appeared in five games in 2024 but projects as a future starter, isn't the most exciting prospect. While he was a second-round pick by the Texans in 2024, the start to his career is less than promising. Based on how poorly the offensive line has performed in recent years, however, it doesn't look like he has a lot of competition. For C.J. Stroud to reach his ceiling in 2025, Fisher will play a large role.

The AFC South is virtually in the bag for Houston. The question is whether or not they can challenge three giants in the conference: Kansas City, Baltimore, and Buffalo. At this stage, it's unlikely they can. But a leap from Fisher would go a long way.

That's what makes this start so frustrating. He struggled as rookie and he's struggling now despite the draft capital, which jeopardizes the entire franchise. Hopefully, Fisher steps it up and proves worthy of his draft capital. Otherwise, general manager Nick Caserio will have some diffiucult questions to answer.

We'll see what happens, but right now, it appears Caserio made yet another mistake trying to build out this roster. Stroud doesn't need a lot of help, but his front office has provided him with nothing to this stage.
