The injury bug has hit the Houston Astros hard this season as they’ve seen several players, including star slugger Yordan Alvarez, join the injured list at various points. However, despite these injuries, the Astros still find themselves at the top of the AL West.
The Astros would like to get some of these guys back in the near future, as any more injuries could potentially derail Houston’s chances to make a run in the second half.
That said, Houston’s luck has not been so great post-All-Star break, as they lost another one of their better hitters to an injury.
Over the weekend, the Astros placed third baseman Isaac Paredes on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain. Paredes sustained the soft tissue injury in Houston’s 7-6 loss against the Seattle Mariners as he was running to first base after hitting a single.
Houston Unclear on Injured Astros 3B Isaac Paredes’ Status
Usually, when a player suffers an injury, the MRI is ordered quickly for the following day. But that wasn’t the case for the 26-year-old Paredes. According to Chandler Rome of The Athletic, the veteran slugger has experienced travel issues getting back to Houston from Seattle, which has delayed his visit to the doctor.
Joe Espada said Isaac Paredes had some travel issues getting back to Houston from Seattle which delayed his doctor visit, so the team is still unclear on the severity of his right hamstring strain or how long he'll be out.

Furthermore, Rome adds that Houston does not know how long he’ll be out or what the severity of Paredes’ injury is.
If you are the Astros’ front office, this isn’t ideal, because depending on how long Paredes is out, it could influence upcoming roster moves. This season, the veteran infielder is slugging .259 with 19 home runs and 50 RBIs.
After hitting .247 with six home runs and 14 RBI in June, Paredes bounced back this month with a .286 average at the plate, along with two home runs and four RBI.
Without Paredes in the lineup, Houston will hope that Zack Short and Mauricio Dubon can hold things down for the foreseeable future. Dubon received the start at third base in Monday night’s series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He went 0-for-3 with a run scored and a walk.
