The Houston Texans have selected Florida’s Jonathan Greenard in the third round with the 90th pick of the 2020 NFL Draft. What makes him stand out?
The HoustonTexanshave wrapped up Day 2 and most of us feel quite satisfied with the picks that they made today. As far as the moves, things were routine and they fulfilled a need with each of the two picks that they made today.
It’s apparent that the HoustonTexansare dead-set on focusing on the defense this time aroundafter investing so much capital on offensive weapons forDeshaun Watson— as well as protection — over the past few seasons.
As the defensive line ages —J.J. WattandWhitney Merciluscan’t reverse the process — they’ll have to do a partial rebuild to ensure they have the budding talent surrounding them to be successful.
The loss ofD.J. Readerhas been notable but with the moves made in this draft, the sting of losing himto free agency may not be as bad as we thought.

If any of you were watching the live stream ofBill O’Brienafter the pick was in, he seemed quite upset, eventually slamming the phone down and walking out of his home office.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reportedthat the HoustonTexanshad a deal with the Detroit Lions for their pick but it fell through.
O’Brien was likely trying to trade down to grab some of their multiple fifth-round picks in contrast to the team having only one this season (No. 170).
When asked at his presser about Greenard and where he will line up, this is what he said about him via the Chron’s Aaron Wilson:
Bill O'Brien on Jonathan Greenard and where he'll line up initially; 'Talking base defense, outside linebacker, I think he would be at the Sam. He could also play as a 5-technique. He's got size and strength. At his core, he's an OLB. I think he can do a lot of different things'

His attributes of being strong and explosive would certainly have him suited for lining up on the strong side and it’s his versatility that will see him through. However, I’m sure Greenard saw that clip so I’m sure he’s going to do everything he can to ensure that he can alleviate O’Brien’s initial thoughts of him.
