Factor #1:  Bill O’Brien’s vicious outburst

It’s concerning that in O’Brien’s role as a millionaire NFL head coach representing a major city, he allegedly did not even prioritize addressing the issue when it occurred over a month earlier. Perhaps O’Brien assumed from his partially concealed location that few, if any fans, could observe him as he took his verbal shots at a heckler while standing and gesturing violently with his finger toward the seating area. During the incident, O’Brien stood under the partially obstructed entryway of a tunnel used by the Texans to exit the field of play.

Furthermore, it’s concerning that O’Brien allegedly did not seem to ever find the heckler, offer a genuine personal apology, or even in real-time, think about the ramifications of how his abusive, potentially traumatizing actions might affect others in the stands when he lost his temper in public that Sunday afternoon.

I cannot help but think there might have been wide-eyed children within the vicinity of the tunnel in seats located overhead, eagerly waiting to catch a glimpse of DeAndre Hopkins, Deshaun Watson, or J.J. Watt, up close and personal, maybe even hoping to receive a high five from their favorite player. Such behavior, as exhibited by O’Brien, arguably could have traumatized a child within earshot.
