Houston Texans: Vernon Hargreaves making an impression in short order
Houston Texans cornerback Vernon Hargreaves has just signed off waivers two weeks ago and he’s already made an impact. What’s the latest on him?
The Houston Texans are headed toward the finish line and there’s only about a month of regular season football left. It’s up to them if they advance to the postseason because their fate largely rests in their hands.
Some teams don’t have always have control over their destiny — just ask the Buffalo Bills — but with the Houston Texans playing in the AFC South, they have a good chance as ever to repeat as division champs, with them being able to nab their fourth division title over the past six seasons.
It’s remarkable and not an easy feat to complete but the Houston Texans have a hell of a shot to get the job done. Not only that but if they do qualify for the postseason, they need to win at least two playoff series to get to the AFC Championship Game.
If they bow out from there, I’ll be okay with it because it will be farther than this franchise has ever gone and they can certainly build off of that for next season. Although I’d love for them to get to the Super Bowl, there’s a lot of things that have to be righted in order for them to get there. It’s a laundry list so I’ll have to save that for another post.

We all know that the depth in the secondary is quite thin, especially with Bradley Roby‘s healthy continuously being up in the air and Lonnie Johnson Jr. still learning the ropes of the pro game. You never know about Johnathan Joseph‘s availability so that’s also a plus for Hargreaves as well.

him on waivers, the team pounced at the opportunity and now they have an opportunity to nurture the career of the former first-round pick to have him reach his full potential.
Although he’s not there yet, I think he’ll be a valuable weapon to have in the fold and beyond as guys in that unit get healthy as the team starts heading down the stretch.
Hargreaves had five tackles and one pass defensed while being present on 82 percent of the team’s defensive snaps.
He missed a few tackles but at least was able to do all he could to help the team win. And depending on when Roby returns, the 24-year-old could play a pivotal role in the secondary as things are starting to cook for a big matchup against the New England Patriots this Sunday.
Let’s hope it continues for the speedy cornerback that could be on the cusp of some greatness — let’s go Houston Texans!
Hargreaves has amassed 44 tackles — 39 solos — along with five passes defensed, one interception, one defensive touchdown and one fumble recovery through 10 starts between the Texans and Bucs this season.
