The Houston Texans were able to claim cornerback Vernon Hargreaves off waivers earlier this week and he gives the secondary a lot of hope. Why? Let’s look.

Houston Texans fans — the bye week is over and it’s now to start to watch our teams partake in competition for the final seven weeks of the season.  It’s anyone’s guess on how things will pan out over that span but with a 6-3 record to boot, things have been rock-solid so far.

But the Houston Texans will be facing a Baltimore Ravens team that is one of the hottest in the NFL, especially on the heels of one Lamar Jackson, who under the tutelage of offensive coordinator Greg Roman has morphed into a strong marriage that has led an amazing offspring of a successful season for the Ravens.

He’s has been absolutely difficult to stop and the Houston Texans could be running into the same problem whenever it’s all said and done tomorrow afternoon.

But one thing is for sure, this game will be exciting and it will come down to the wire.  I suspect that Ka’imi Fairbairn will be busy tomorrow as I’m sure there will be considerable three-and-outs because of the Ravens’ strong defensive front.

Nonetheless, the Houston Texans have themselves a new cornerback waiting in the wings to help this team reach new heights as the season wears on.

The franchise signed fourth-year corner Vernon Hargreaves off waivers after being released from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this week.  The team cut Briean Boddy-Calhoun, who was just signed three weeks ago and had a sack in their last matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars, in a corresponding move.

After the former first-round pick was benched last Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals for likely underwhelming play, the writing was on the wall for the 24-year-old and his days were numbered.

He now will have an opportunity for a fresh start and be able to help this secondary out, especially

against a tough receiving front headed up by Hollywood Brown.  When he gets playing time, I don’t see him giving up big chunks of yardage but I think he’s going to make an impact right out of the gate.

It’s amazing how a change of scenery can energize someone and I think Hargreaves is none the exception.

The speedy, versatile corner that played his collegiate ball at the University of Florida — he can run the 40-yard-dash in 4.50 seconds — could be a bargain pickup and I think it was worth it for the Houston Texans to take a flyer on him.

He does have the ability to help on special teams as well although his role in that area diminished as time wore on while he was with Bucs.  That might happen when Bradley Roby returns; but, for now, he’s going to get notable playing time because of Roby still recovering from his hamstring injury.

Just wait and see, I think we haven’t seen anything yet — go Houston Texans!

Hargreaves has amassed 39 tackles — 36 solos — including one interception, four passes defended, one fumble recovery and one defensive touchdown through all nine starts this season with the Bucs.
